Ugnar - Minotaur Cleric (Kord/Pelor)
Ugnar was born to an important family in the far northern minotaur kingdom called the Shattered Fists of Winter. The Shattered Fists is made up of 2 cities, each having been built on the leveled-off top of a mountain. These two cities were right next to each other, and for many years shared more than just a name - they shared a religion (the worship of Kord as well as that of Pelor), a leader and a purpose. Living in peace with their neighbors, the minotaurs lived by laws and honor in a way that most communities can only hope to. However, when Ugnar was young, minotaurs from the Cult of Baphomet infiltrated and seized control of one of the Shattered Fists. A civil war broke out between the factions and cities - the followers of Kord and Pelor representing the Shattered Fists old ways of honor and law; and the Cult of Baphomet representing treachery, murder and deceit. Allied with dark powers fromBeyond, the Cult of Baphomet quickly claimed victory. Vicious and barbaric, the Cult began a campaign of persecution against the old minotaur ways, forcing the losing side to flee the cities. The young Ugnar was taken by his father, Ugnalius (a formidable priest of Kord and Pelor) into exile.
After much travelling Ugnar's family came upon Greenvale. Here, in this quiet community, the minotaurs were viewed and judged by their hearts and not their appearance. Of course, it helped that Greenvale has a fairly large Temple of Pelor, whose priests readily accepted the two minotaurs. The family quickly assimilated and Ugnar spent his youth amongst peers of all backgrounds and races. His father became a leader of the town's multi-faith temple, while Ugnar found that his size and strength gave him an advantage over the other children when it came to games and sports. He quickly became the most popular youngster in town and became known throughout the region for his various sporting exploits.
Now entering adulthood, Ugnar finds himself following in his father's footsteps by taking up the mantle of faith. Adhering to the teachings of Kord and Pelor, Ugnar continues to be center stage in the town. While as a youth it was as a top athelete and champion, now it as a religious leader and pillar of the community.
While Ugnar enjoys the work he does, he does not necessarily want to take over as one of the leaders of the church. Instead, he hears the call of the adventurer's path. Perhaps someday, after he has satisfied his need for performing heroic deeds, he will then be ready to accept a position at the head of Greenvale's temple.
As Ugnar works for the temple, one of his duties has been to provide first aid to the militia. While things are quiet in Greenvale, the citizens are trained in a rotating fashion to stand as a militia if the need arises. During his visits to attend to the bruised and battered from training, he has become good friends with the Dwarven warrior Gumba, who has been sent from Strongwall to train the militia. While
Gumba has only been in the town a short time, the two have already forged the lasting friendship of kindred spirits.
