Grindol Silverbough
Grindol Silverbough is an Elf, native to the Thousand Mountains region. Early in his life, Grindol's village was overrun by a marauding Gnoll army. The fierce battle wiped out the village, killing nearly all the Elves (including Grindol's parents) and all would have been lost if not for the arrival of a Dwarven reinforcements from a nearby mine. After the battle, Grindol went with the Dwarves and was raised in a Dwarf Hold. He learned the ways of the forge and how to fight with battle axes and mauls. Due to this upbringing, Grindol is an usually brawny Elf and is sometimes confused for a Half-Elf or Eladrin.
Growing up near his birthplace, Grindol often visited the remains of his former village and the graves of his parents. This constant reminder of his pained past fueled his martial training and it was not long before he set out on the adventurer's path. For many years he traveled the region and even beyond, joining with other adventurers and going where the winds took him. However, Grindol never stayed away from his home and returned frequently. His visits to his birthplace and to his adopted Dwarven parents eventually became frequent enough that he gave up the adventuring lifestyle altogether.
It was at this time that Grindol found himself at the gates of the old Vera Suhl monastery, just a mile North of the fledgling town of Greenvale. Locals had always felt the old place was haunted and few dared enter the gates, let alone approach the building on the hilltop. Grindol, however, had one last adventure in him and boldly went in. What Grindol found inside, no one is sure exactly. He refused to talk about it, often just shrugging and saying, "Such a grand old building was just a waste to be empty like it was. It took a lot of work, and I'm still working on it, but she's got a purpose again. Isn't that all that matters?"
Within two years of claiming the old monastery, Grindol dubbed it the Drowsy Arbor (an homage to the Elven village in which he was born) and opened the doors for business. Retiring his battle axe, the weapon was hung above the bar in the taproom and the ale is his own private recipe.
It was not too long after the Arbor opened that Grindol met Messinda, a young Elf Warlock from far outside the region. She was starting her life as an adventurer when her party stayed at the Arbor. The group set out in to the
Valley of Horrors, and met with disasterous results. Messinda and one other returned, injured and frightened. Grindol, having taking a liking to the young Elven lass, convinced her to give up the adventurer lifestyle and stay with him. She agreed and in a few short months the two were married.
Now Grindol and Messinda live at the Drowsy Arbor and raise their three children. Adventurers and travelers come through and stay, and many a night the after the children are in bed, Grindol and Messinda share their stories with the young adventurers. Many of the locals also visit the Arbor and the couple are considered to be important members of the Greenvale community.
